October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Together We Can Make a Difference

Every October, communities across the country unite to recognize Breast Cancer Awareness Month. This is a time to reflect, honor survivors, remember those we’ve lost, and take action to support ongoing research, education, and patient assistance.

At the DC Landlord Association, we know that being part of the Washington, DC community means more than just managing properties—it means standing together for causes that impact our neighbors, friends, and families. Breast cancer affects millions of people every year, and raising awareness is one way we can help save lives.

Why Awareness Matters

  • Early detection saves lives. Regular screenings and mammograms can make a critical difference in treatment outcomes.

  • Support systems matter. Many individuals battling breast cancer rely on community organizations for financial and emotional assistance.

  • Research drives progress. Donations fuel groundbreaking studies that move us closer to better treatments and, ultimately, a cure.

Where to Give

If you’re looking for ways to contribute, here are a few organizations making a lasting impact:

  • Susan G. Komen Foundation – Focused on research, education, advocacy, and support programs for patients and families.

  • American Cancer Society – Provides free lodging for patients, rides to treatment, and extensive research funding.

  • Breast Cancer Research Foundation – A top-rated nonprofit dedicated solely to advancing breast cancer research.

  • Howard University Cancer Center – Right here in DC, supporting research and care that directly impacts our community.

How You Can Help Locally

  • Wear pink throughout October to show your support.

  • Share awareness information with tenants, colleagues, and family members.

  • Organize small fundraisers or donation drives within your buildings or offices.

  • Encourage loved ones to schedule their regular screenings.

At the DC Landlord Association, we believe that supporting causes like this is part of being a responsible community leader. Together, we can do our part to spread awareness, encourage prevention, and make sure no one fights breast cancer alone.
